Party season in Ibiza typically begins at the end of May and lasts through to the beginning of October. So when we visited in mid-May, it was definitely what one would refer to as being ‘out of season’. ‘Out of season Ibiza’ isn’t remotely in the vocabulary of the 18-30s who flock there from all over the world. However, as Jay was turning 29 years young, we spent 7 days on the party island. It was nothing like the imagery you may have previously attached to Ibiza Playa Den Bossa.
Where to stay in Ibiza
There’s two locations party goers tend to stay in Ibiza; West in San Antonio or South in Playa d’en Bossa. San Antonio is lively and relatively inexpensive, whereas Playa den Bossa is the epicentre for the luxury hotel experience. The choice you make really depends on your budget and what experience you are after.
It was never our intention to live it up like wild 18 year olds freshly unleashed onto the club scene. Our priority was to experience a luxury get away with the opportunity to dip in and out of the wilderness. As we later came to find, out of season Ibiza (Playa den Bossa) made perfect sense.
We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza which honestly did not disappoint! The vibes during the day were perfect for catching up on some sunbathing and self-rejuvenation from nighttime antics. You can read more about our full experience at the Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza here.
Shopping & Eating In Ibiza Playa den Bossa
In Ibiza Playa den Bossa you’ll find plenty of places to dine or grab a beverage along the strip. We even managed to indulge in a spot of retail therapy where we bought Ibiza memorabilia & a neon orange bikini.
Where to Eat
The cuisine options available in Playa den Bossa is admirably diverse, as is the varying price points. You can choose to dine more upmarket at restaurants such as Sissi’s Asador. Sissi’s Asador offers grilled meats and fresh lobsters from the tank. Alternatively, you can find cheaper food at places like Pizza Piadina – a little spot on the strip selling inexpensive pizzas. We know for sure that Paris Hilton is a fan of the latter and so are we.
Spoilt by the choice, we took advantage of the variety and dined Spanish, Italian, Mexican & American during our stay.
Things to do in ‘Out of Season’ Ibiza
When you’ve exhausted sunbathing and lounging around your hotel, there’s plenty to get busy with in ‘Out of Season’ Ibiza. What visit to Ibiza is complete without experiencing what the infamous Pacha brand has to offer, especially if you grew up in the 90s or 00s? We voluntarily dipped in to the party scene twice during our stay in Ibiza; we attended a bottomless drink, adults only boat party which cruised down the coast of Ibiza and we signed up to attend Pacha.
The Boat Party
The boat party was fun; the sun was hot, the music was good, the drinks were flowing, the sea was gorgeous and the company was friendly – we were definitely living the good life aboard that boat! The boat party event organisers definitely knew what they were doing which made the whole experience a pleasurable one (read more about our Ibizan boat party experience here).
Raving at Pacha
Pacha was quite the experience too! We knew the music was never going to live up to our favourite genre, but we still managed to vibe to it. Pacha totally blew us away with the visuals; the light show, the dancers and the stilted performers were absolutely phenomenal! However, did we last the whole night? Definitely not. We probably lasted half of the night, but we are glad to have crossed Pacha off of our bucket list.
Rooftop Bars
If the hardcore club scene is not your thing, cocktails & live music might be more up your street. A visit to Ibiza’s most fashionable sky-lounge is a must. The Ninth rooftop bar at Ibiza’s Hard Rock Hotel is gorgeous and we can confirm that it has substantial, top tier views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Alternatively, there’s ‘Up Ibiza Sky Society’ rooftop terrace which is located at the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. Both terraces will offer near identical views as their respective hotels and bars are literally adjacent to each other. In our short 7 days on the island, we never once became tired of The Ninth and as we were staying at Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, it was all too convenient for us to keep hanging out there. Ultimately, there was little reason for us to visit Ushuaïa‘s sky-lounge but when we do go back to Ibiza Playa den Bossa, we will visit to check out how their vibe differs in comparison to The Ninth.
Shisha & Chill
Take a short walk to the end of the strip & you’ll find a cute chilled little shisha and cocktail spot. In other words, the name of the particular one we visited escapes us but there is a fair few in the locality so give one of them a try to switch things up a little.
Overall, if you’re not quite the party animal but you would like to experience a bit of the Ibizan buzz, ‘Out of Season’ Ibiza (well Ibiza Playa den Bossa) is totally the vibe.
